Big ticket investments in a destination spurs growth in every aspect. Real estate, tourism, service industries all benefit when a big resort comes up. Similar will be the case of Puerto Morelos. The town is famous for its spectacular beaches and location. Located close to Cancun and Playa del Carmen, it has been receiving a lot of interest from tourists of late.

Canada's travel company Sunwing Travel Group has plans to invest $250 million in the construction of a resort in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, in 2014. Mexico's Secretary of Tourism, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, announced in a press conference that Sunwing plans to build a hotel in the Puerto Morelos area soon.

According to the Tourism Secretariat in Mexico, the agreement to embark on the building has already been sealed. Stephen Hunter, the Sunwing Travel Group to executive confirmed the arrangement between the two sides in a meeting held in Toronto.

In the press conference, Sunwing Travel Group CEO Stephen Hunter and Vice President Lawrence Elliot gave more details of the project. The resort will be christened The Royalton Riviera Cancun. The hotel will have 1,250 guestrooms in its first phase.

Hunter said such a project is a clear example of trust and goodwill actions from Mexico's president, Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto, who has established impeccable relations with foreign enterprises.

Massieu stated that the Royalton Riviera Cancun represents Mexico's trustworthiness as an investment destination and Mexico's commitment made in the recently implemented and revised National Tourism Policy. She also stated that the Mexican government is working non-stop to improve air connectivity with the world to bring more luxury travelers to its shores.
